Executive Secretary Report
-
Ken Oyer distributed the Treasurer’s Report. He explained that Verio is our new Internet provider. He also discussed the class he attended on Quick Books. Angela Arner moved that the report be accepted; Robin Bernstein seconded. Motion carried.
- Communication Coordinator’s Report
-
Erin Bauer asked for suggestions about the newsletter. It was determined that the newsletters should be kept on the ICON web site for one year and that Erin would keep paper archives of the newsletters. Erin noted that she revised the ICON bylaws and the reference to the NLM grant on the web page. New membership application forms and scholarship application forms are also available on the web site.
- Committee Reports
-
New Committee Members - Jim Bothmer distributed a list of the new committee members. Mary Helms was added to the Bylaws Committee.
Membership Committee - Ken Oyer reported that several new members have joined ICON. A list of “new and almost new members” was distributed. A revised list will be put on the web site.
Resource Committee - The Committee has not met yet, but Karen Mier has been compiling the annual DOCLINE statistics as the Committee has done in the past. She is waiting on several libraries to provide the statistics, then will prepare the spreadsheet and distribute it. Changes are being made to the DOCLINE system every few weeks, and messages about the changes are being distributed on the MCMLA listserv.
Honors and Awards Committee - In 1999, Judy Bergjord and Erin Bauer each received $500 to attend MLA, while Ken Oyer received $500 to attend MCMLA in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Ken Oyer encouraged members to apply for the scholarships for 2000 on the web site.
- Consumer Health Grant
- A survey was sent to all public libraries in the Eastern Library System regarding consumer health services; almost all libraries replied. Nearly $15,000 is available to hire a webmaster and for preparations. The grant will pay for four people to attend the Reach-Up Conference in October as a method of promotion and educating the public on this new service. Several subcommittees have been established. Some agenda items include creating a job description for the webmaster and arranging mini-grants for public libraries. Roxanne Cox will be providing a Train the Trainer workshop on May 19 to train public librarians about consumer health. Volunteers were encouraged to sign up for the committee charged with designing the web site.
