Meeting called to order by Jim Bothmer, Senior Executive Board Member.

Introductions and library round robin

Motion to approve the March minutes was made by Ken Oyer and seconded by Marie Reidelbach. Minutes stand approved as published on the web site.

Treasurer’s Report was given by Ken Oyer

Jim Bothmer gave an update on the Consumer Health Grant. The subcontract expires July 2001. The subcommittee is selecting a web provider from two possible vendors, and will present the vendor choice at the next ICON meeting. The subcommittee has also put together a mini-grant application to be sent to public libraries in late August, providing up to $3000 for hardware/software and some print materials for consumer health. Planned exhibits for this subcommittee include: Fremont, NE; Nebraska City; Nebraska Library Association; Midcontinental Medical Library Association. Joy Winkler circulated marketing items showing the official color and web site address for the Consumer Health information. The intent is to have a web site with a living map to carry information seekers to state level resources. Joy also mentioned the McGoogan Library’s consumer health video in production. The video will belong to ICON, who will also market it. The Consumer Health Grant paid for the video production. Jim acknowledged Ronnie Mevorach’s work to create the Access database of raw resource data. Ken Oyer will report at a later date on the progress of the database.

Motion to adjourn: Ken Oyer. Mary Helms seconded. Meeting adjourned.

Mini-MLA--Mary Helms, MLA Scholarship recipient, gave her presentation on what activities she experienced while in Vancouver, BC for the MLA conference. She thanked the group for the scholarship, and said that this conference was well-run with great food. This was also the coldest MLA meeting she has attended. There was a record 2400 member attendance, and a record number of exhibitors.

In addition to the meeting agenda she filed with ICON, she said that the chapter sharing roundtables was a great activity to look forward to when planning to attend the MLA 2001 in Orlando. This is the only activity where members get to interact as well as attend. This year’s attendance included 320 members – expect more next year. Local MLA members were able to help present/facilitate at this function, including Rose Schinker, Mary Helms, Sharon Lezotte, and Teri Hartman.

Other local information presented at the conference included the Blair Witch spoof done called the “McGoogan Stacks Project”, shown at the poster session. Wayne Peay, University of Utah, gave a digital video presentation. She announced that a new section had been created: Leadership and Management Section. This section will focus on leadership and managing skills.

Some statistics she shared with the group: by the year 2025, 75% of current MLA membership will be eligible for retirement. This means that there needs to be a push to get younger members interested in joining. She attended the ejournal symposium. Rose Schinker mentioned that she had benchmarking handouts available.

Mary then offered to the group the freebies she picked up at the conference exhibitors’ booths.

Respectfully submitted by Teri Hartman, in the abscence of Karen Mier.
