On June 14th, during a tornado warning at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center, librarian Ken Oyer rounded up patients and visitors and people in wheelchairs to bring them into the safety of the library. Each guest was provided with a free copy of Elliott S. Dacher's Intentional Healing (1996, Marlowe and Co., NY). Then he found a copy of Dr. Seuss' You're only old once: a book for obsolete children (1986, Random House, NY). A woman guest gladly took it and began a story hour, holding the book up for all to see and reading aloud, complete with expressions, inflections, and humorous asides. Needless to say, there was no tension left in the room when the alert was over.
