On April 19, 2000 at InfoTech 2000, Theresa Arndt, Head of Education, McGoogan Library of Medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Gretchen Schaeffer, Director of the Media Center, Munroe-Meyer Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center, presented "Web Design for Accessibility: It's Good Business, It's the Law, It's the Right Thing to Do."
This presentation began with a brief introduction to the issues faced by the more than 27 million persons with disabilities and the adaptive computer technologies they use to access the web. The laws and regulations relating to information technology access were discussed and the standards and guidelines for accessibility were addressed in the context of good web design. Tools available to aid web designers/developers in achieving accessibility were introduced and a list of resources for developers was provided.
