Award - Robin Bernstein, Director of the Bellevue University Library, is Nebraska's recipient of the Mountain Plains Library Association Board Choice Award. The award, which includes one year free membership, is designed to recruit new members and takes into consideration their potential to benefit MPLA and the profession in the broader sense.

The Eastern Library System Annual meeting was held at the University of Nebraska ARDC Research and Education Building in Ithaca, NE on June 11, 2001. Amidst the beautiful rolling farmland of eastern Nebraska over 100 participants were treated to a wonderful meeting experience. Among the highlights of the meeting was a panel discussion about ways of promoting the library. The panel, which included Dorothy Willis and Joy Winkler, suggested many good promotional ideas. Dr. Gary Hartzell from UNO conducted a thought-provoking session on "Exploring Influence for the Librarian". Dr. Hartzell's excellent presentation provided many strategies for overcoming a negative perception of libraries that often exists in parent institutions. Many awards were given to individuals and organizations, including one to ICON, which Jim Bothmer accepted on behalf of the consortium. Angie Arner and Joy Winkler staffed an exhibit highlighting HealthHQ, which generated many good comments. Overall, this was an excellent annual meeting. Click here to see pictures from the meeting!
