Greetings (after Sunny Orlando, Florida!)!! The 2001 Medical Library Association Annual Conference was a success. The weather (and fires) were cooperative for the most part. (I’ll be happy to share my Tampa flight story with you!) Many good sessions - a number of times so you had to pick and choose which to attend. Seeing/meeting other librarians is always priceless. Come hear all of the details on June 15th at Mahoney State Park. The business meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. to be followed by our own Mini...or should I say...Minnie-MLA! Ask about the slide show!
The most popular conference phrase: “You can accomplish a lot if you don’t mind who takes the credit.” This phrase was used by a session speaker (which one escapes me) and in the Educational Media and Technologies and Medical Informatics Section Paper Program session: Getting all the Oars in the Water. Visit http://www.mlanet.org/am/am2001/program/index.html for more details.
MLA 2002 is in Dallas, Texas...and NOT over Memorial Day weekend! We’re encouraging members, both new and not-new, individuals and institutions, to join in the festivities and benefits that are ICON for the rest of 2001. Membership, for those onlookers, is easy and pretty painless. Join ICON and join the fun!
You are formally invited to attend the next ICON meeting at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (42nd and Emile) at 2:00 p.m. on the 14th of September. Come see the newly renovated McGoogan Library and brand new Linder Library Lounge! See you there!
Top Ten Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Have Purchased Food While in “some parts” of Florida:
10. If you would’ve know food prices, you would’ve asked for a second bag of pretzels on the plane.
9. The water in the meeting rooms was really filling.
8. You feel people shouldn’t be so attached to material things...like food.
7. For once, food at the airport was cheaper!
6. Some vendors gave away free snack food.
5. A vendor or two gave away post-it notes. They can be filling.
4. Begging vendors to take you out for food is character building.
3. You feel you’re ready to see how long the human body can go without food.
2. After you hand in your expenses for this trip, you know where your next pay increase went.
1. Wouldn’t have needed that second mortgage.
