Executive Secretary Report
Mary Helms distributed a budget list, including how many and to whom we have sold the Consumer Health video. Sixty-five videos and sixty guides have been sold. We are not going to make more copies of the video until after the Nebraska Library Association conference. We will just take orders. Mary Helms mentioned about moving the certificate of deposit (CD) for a better interest rate. Ken said that Creighton Federal Credit Union (where the CD is currently) will match anyone’s interest rate. Mary Helms will check into it. ABC tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis. There are five tickets available for each breakfast. Date are September 19 - Andrew Cuomo, March 27 - Donna Shirley, April 30 - Mike Morgan, and December 5 - Ken Schmidt. If interested, contact Mary Helms.
Communication Coordinator Report
Erin Bauer said the new ICONnection is up. Read the article about the road trip.
Committee Reports
- Bylaws Committee had nothing to report.
- Membership Committee:
New personal member is Patti Carstens at UNMC College of Nursing. A membership drive in Iowa was considered. Kathy Tooker will talk to the librarian at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. Rose Schinker will send letters to medical libraries in Sioux City, Iowa.
- Resource Committee:
Teri Hartman is approaching the Nebraska Library Commission about funding sources to improve library consumer health collections. Members of the Resource Committee are checking with their foundations. Teri Hartman mentioned an article in the Omaha World-Herald about funding sources. If you have any leads on funding sources please contact Karen Mier.
- Consumer Health Grant Steering Committee Report
Jim reported that ICON has received an LSTA grant from the Nebraska Library Commission in the amount of $5,000 for one year. The grant will be used to manage, maintain and improve HealthHQ. A condition of the contract is that we have to spend (out of pocket expense) $2500 before we get reimbursed. We need someone to do indexing (assign subject headings using the Plaintree thesaurus) to the information we are receiving from the clipping service. The rate is $15 per hour. The thesaurus as well as the clippings from the clipping service are in the hands of Marie Reidelbach. Rose Schinker will send out an e-mail to the group to see if anyone is interested. If interested e-mail Jim Bothmer. If no one is interested, Marie Reidelbach does have someone in mind. The HealthHQ project will be submitted to MLA for the Frank Bradway Rogers Award. Nancy Woelfl also suggested submitting it to the Midcontinetal Chapter of MLA for an award.
Web Design CE Update
Six people are registered plus the members of the CE committee. Speaker is arriving in town on October 10 with her daughter. Rose is planning to take them to dinner in the Old Market. Patti Cartsens mentioned putting the CE information in the NEMA newsletter. Deadline for registration is September 20.
