Executive Secretary’s Report (Mary Helms) Mary distributed ICON Financial Report 12/12/03. Report is current as of last week. Bank has signed off on the necessary paper work for direct deposit of ARIEL grant; however, this still doesn’t assure that we have been awarded the grant.
Communication Coordinator Report (Moved to later in meeting, when Shawn Ammon would be available.) At that time, Shawn reported ICONnection had finally been posted & that he would check on link to membership forms.
· Bylaws No report.
· Membership M Helms has membership forms available. Forms are also available on ICON website. Ken Oyer reported that individual membership, but not institutional forms could be printed from website.
· Resource (Karen Mier) Karen reported on progress surrounding ARIEL grant.
(1) Shawn Ammon & Tom Gensichen will be looking at cost estimates for hardware included in the grant. They will give us a lead time, so institutions will have needed tables, desks, etc. ready when equipment arrives, as well as meeting the schedules of IT personnel who will be vital to helping with installation. (2) A survey will be developed to monitor change in transmission of documents before & after ARIEL is installed. NLM may be able to retrieve this information; if not, institutions will probably need to do some type of a physical count. Marty Magee thought that statistics should be available, as this information is recorded when responding to DOCLINE ILL requests.
· Continuing Education (Jeanne Burke) (1) Jeanne distributed schedule for College of DuPage Teleconferences & URL for teleconference website. Both Creighton & Bellevue host teleconferences. Nebraska Library Commission has copies of past conferences available for borrowing. There is also a teleconference on metadata. (2) “Technology Playday,” dates are still in question, possibly sometime in May. Current thinking is to limit attendance of mentoring section to ICON members only, & hold the event at Creighton.
· MCMLA report MCMLA Conference, “Creative Partnering,” co-hosted with SDLA, was held in Sioux Falls SD, October 15-18, 2003. Mix of public & medical librarians was substantial. ICON attendees mentioned that sessions on copyright & USA Patriot Act were good. Angela Arner, recipient of ICON continuing education scholarship money, has produced an extensive report that is posted on ICON website in Winter 2003 ICONnection. Jim Bothmer talked with Tracy Bicknell-Holmes about possibility of merging MCMLA with NLA Conference in 2007.
· NLA report ICON booth space was free, with $40. charge if we needed electrical hookup. J Burke mentioned that we should give consideration to this cost for future conferences. Non-profits were located downstairs, an area which generated very little traffic. Teri Hartman spoke with organizers about possibility of locating all booths in same area for future conferences.
· RML News · Marty Magee distributed handouts dealing with (1) DOCLINE: ways to review & improve institutional record. (Contact Marty if there are problems with DOCLINE.)
(2) MedlinePlus: new & future websites, & announcement that forthcoming Hospital Directory will be ready in Jan/Feb 2004. (3) CAPHIS: compilation of NLM survey information gathered from CAPHIS listserv. (4) Her business card. · Siobhan Blackwell noted that MedlinePlus now has a Spanish component. She distributed handouts of NLM educational materials.
Election of Freshman Member to Executive Board Teri Hartman was unanimously approved.
