A Message from the Senior Executive Board Member

Welcome to ICON 2005. Quarterly meetings, National Library week, national & regional conferences, MCMLA 2007, ICON accomplishments & connections.

Quarterly ICON meeting dates proved challenging. Hopefully, we avoided conflicts for most of you. It’s time to travel west. Would you believe that it’s been four years since we met at Mahoney State Park? We had a good turnout then, & I hope many of you will be able to come to our Spring meeting in Lincoln on April 8. ICON member Anne Heimann invited us to meet at BryanLGH College of Health Sciences & take advantage of the opportunity to view their newly renovated facilities. Former members of the Lincoln Health Sciences Library Group are invited to join us. They generously gave ICON a large donation when they formally disbanded a few years ago. Celebrate the arrival of Spring by enjoying an ICON trip to Lincoln.

Ken Oyer will host our Summer meeting at Alegent Bergan Mercy Hospital on June 10. Bergan also experienced a major construction/renovation project. We’ll be able to view part of it, although some patient areas are now off-limits.

LaVista Public Library will be our Fall location on August 26. Rose Schinker & I had set another date; however, she is being honored as one of the MPLA Board Choice Award Winners for 2005. That conference is scheduled in Jackson Hole at the time we’d set the ICON meeting.  Since Marty Magee is also a MPLA Board Choice Award Winner, we should have kept the original date & moved our meeting to Wyoming. Congratulations to both Rose & Marty! Several library conferences are happening after Labor Day, so we chose this early date.

December 9 is our Winter meeting at Creighton Health Sciences Library. We celebrate the accomplishments of the year, select a new board member, & welcome the Christmas & Hanukkah seasons by enjoying each other’s company, as well as some very tasty food.

National Library Week is April 10 – 16. Our Lincoln meeting is a good way to usher in the week’s events. We’re asking each of you to bring promotional materials & ideas so we can share what we’re doing during National Library Week to market our libraries.

Library conferences keep us sharp & we’re fortunate to have so many opportunities available in Spring & Fall. Yes, we’ve double-booked Spring ICON meeting & ACRL. Opps!
