student), Dr. Heather Goertz (Creighton occupational therapy faculty), &
Bonnie Harmon (public health nurse with Douglas County Health
Department) on a "Grand Rounds" panel focusing on issues of health

Education (OISSE) hosted Grand Rounds.

Janet Greser (Paraprofessional Keynote Editor at Nebraska Library
Commission) offers information on video available for viewing or
purchase. Focus of program is library worker salaries.

Working @ your library(r): for LOVE or MONEY
ALA has put together an advocacy video to help library workers improve
their salaries. What can help you make your case when advocating for
better salaries? Working @ your library(r) can help! This 10-minute
video accomplishes four goals:
1. Illustrating the importance of work done by library workers;
2. Highlighting the variety of work done by library workers;
3. Emphasizing the inequities of library pay in comparison to other
similarly trained professions;
4. Making it clear that something must be done.
This video and the Advocating for Better Salaries and Pay Equity Toolkit
are important tools as you formulate strategies for convincing your
colleagues, managers, trustees, and elected officials that it is fair
and possible to align library workers' salaries with those positions
requiring similar education and responsibility.
How can I get a copy?
The Paraprofessional Section purchased this video & toolkit combination
and donated it to the Nebraska Library Commission for their Web OPAC.
Feel free to check it out, it is well done, and informative.

If you'd like you own copy, the video is your free gift with a donation
to the ALA-Allied Professional Association of $25 or more, at

Teri Hartman was a participant in 3rd annual Nebraska Leadership
Institute this past summer, & shares the following: "I recommend this
Institute to anyone that wants to improve as a leader in librarianship
in Nebraska! It was a wonderful experience, and I learned so much about
myself (important at my age, don't you think?!)."  Information on the
Institute can be read in the Eastern Library System newsletter at
