A Message from the Senior Executive Board Member

I encourage you to attend the Fall 2006 ICON meeting next Friday, September 15 at the Thune Conference Room in the Creighton Health Sciences Library. The meeting starts at 2 pm, but the program takes place at 12:30 –2 pm. The program, led by Dan Doody, is “Core titles in a post Brandon-Hill world”, a topic of interest to all of us involved in health science collection development. Please email Siobhan Champ-Blackwell by September 8 at siobhan@creighton.edu that you are attending – lunch is included, thanks to Doody Enterprises, Inc.

Work continues on the 2007 Joint Conference in Omaha. It is hard to believe, but we are now only a year away from the meeting! My thanks to Nebraska Methodist College, Creighton University, University of Nebraska Medical Center, and individual donors for donations of giveaway items for the two conference booths at the fall conferences in St. Louis and Louisville, KY. If your organization has additional giveaway items that you would like to include, please email me at teresa.hartman@gmail.com and I will come by and pick them up. A group of ICON members is hard at work, promoting the meeting and inviting the St. Louis attendees to join us in Omaha, while a group of the Iowa Health Sciences section will be inviting the Louisville, KY attendees to do the same.

My thanks also go to the ICON Executive Committee as they have taken the lion’s share of the workload during my current cancer treatment. I won’t be able to join you at the meeting next week, but I plan on celebrating with you at the Winter Meeting on December 8 at McGoogan Library of Medicine. We will have our annual election for Freshman Member at that time along with the holiday party. Please nominate yourself or someone you feel would be perfect for the 3-year office. Send your nominations to me by November 30 so we can have a full ballot to vote on during the election.

The Fall 2006 agenda and Summer 2006 meeting minutes have been posted at the ICON website. Please print them off and bring them with you to the meeting on Friday. I know this will be a meeting you won’t want to miss! -Teri
